Perseus, Slayer of Medusa
In Greek mythology, Perseus, the legendary founder of Mycenae and of the Perseid dynasty of Danaans, was the first hero. Perseus beheaded the Gorgon Medusa and saved Andromeda from the sea monster Cetus. Perseus was the son of the mortal Danaë and the god Zeus. He was also the great grandfather of Heracles, also a son of Zeus. |
Perseus was given a task to kill Medusa and to bring the head back to Athena. The weapons he use to defeat Medusa where a Sword, to cut her head off. A cap, to make him invisible as he’s fighting Medusa,and a he used a mirrored shield. It allowed him to see a reflection of Medusa’s face and to avoid being turned into stone.The way that he killed her was by using the shield not looking at her he looked at the polished shield and sliced her throat and after that he brought the head back to Athena. |
As Perseus was going back to rescue his mother he saw a beautiful young girl named Andromeda. Andromeda was princess of Aethiopia. Her mother bragged that she was more beautiful than the Nereids, Posiden’s companions of the sea. Posiden was angered by this and sent the kraken to destroy the princess’s home land. After consulting the Oracle, they chained Andromeda up in the harbor to be sacrificed to the Kraken. When Perseus saw her, he swooped down and showed the Head of Medusa to the Kraken and turned it to stone. He then went on to marry Andromeda.
