Oedipus
The story of Oedipus from the mythology book. Oedipus' parents learn from the Oracle of Delphi that their son will kill his father and marry his mother. To prevent this from happening the father, Laius the King of Thebes. He leaves his child on a mountain top to die. Oedipus is found and brought back to Corinth and raised there by the king. Oedipus is grown up and learns of a prophecy that he will kill his father and marry his mother. Trying to prevent this he leaves Corinth. Oedipus is traveling and runs into Laius. They get into a heated argument and Oedipus kills him. He goes to Thebes and he defeats the Sphinx by answering its riddle. He marry's the widowed queen and they have 4 children together. A plague hits Thebes and to find out what happened Oedipus sends Creon to go to the Oracle of Delphi to find out. The plague will stop once the murderer of Laius is brought to justice. Oedipus founds out that he was never Polybus' son and realizes he killed Laius and married his mother. After they find out Jocasta kills herself and Oedipus gashes his eyes out
